3 Natural Ways To Combat Acne

Having acne can be difficult. The condition can make you self-conscious, and you may find it uncomfortable to interact freely in social situations. However, there are multiple remedies for acne. Here are a few natural solutions that you can try at home:

Castor Oil Cleansing

Castor oil is the thick oil that you may remember your mother administering when you had stomach ailments as a child. This particular oil contains antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory properties. It may seem counterproductive to apply oil to an acne breakout. However, acne is often associated with an overproduction of oil along with the presence of bacteria on the face.

As castor oil is applied to the face, it can help dissolve oily secretions that may be trapped within the pores. In addition, it promotes the death and removal of facial bacteria.

To oil cleanse with castor oil, add about a spoonful of oil to your hands and rub the oil in a circular motion over your face.

After the oil is applied, wet a washcloth with hot water. The water should not be scalding, but it should be hot enough to release steam. Place the hot cloth over your face and leave it in place for a few seconds to allow the steam to open pores and the oil to enter. Then, wipe the oil away with the cloth. Repeat the rinsing of the washcloth and its application to the face until all of the oily residue has been removed.

Baking Soda

Baking soda, which is an alkaline powder, can be added to water to form an exfoliating acne wash. The alkaline nature of the baking soda helps restore the proper pH to the skin of the face. In addition, the baking soda is mildly antibacterial and slightly abrasive. The coarse texture of the powder can help remove dead skin cells that may clog pores and incite breakouts.

To use the baking soda, simply add enough water to form a loose paste. Apply the mixture with your finger tips and rinse well with water. You can use a clean towel to pat the face dry.

Apple Cider Vinegar

Apple cider vinegar makes a great acne-fighting astringent. The vinegar helps remove dead skin cells and tighten pores. In addition, it removes excess oil.

To use the homemade astringent, simply mix a spoon of vinegar with three spoonfuls of water. You can apply the solution with a cotton ball or your fingertips. Leave the solution in place for a few minutes before rinsing it away.
